Santa Cecilia
The Patron Saint of Music

A touching story of beauty and merit from the ancient Roman time... Born in the 3rd Century A.D., Cecilia a beautiful virgin with Christian faith . In her wedding night, she heard heavenly music and was protected by God's angel. She preached and converted over 400 believers. She was persecuted by the Romans and eventually she sacrificed her life for her faith. Songs were sung and poetry was written in her name and she became the Patron Saint of music.

22 November is the fest day of Santa Cecilia. A wealth of music and art festivals in honour of her name are celebrated all over the world .

Today's Santa Cecilia Church Trastevere in Rome was re-built by Cardinal Paul Emilus Stondrati in 1599 on the original location of the ancient Santa Cecilia Church built in the 5th Century.
